Description: Glutathione (GSH) is an endogenous gamma-glutamyl tripeptide (gamma-Glu-Cys-Gly) that functions as a principal intracellular thiol antioxidant and redox buffer. In laboratory and cell-culture research models, it is investigated for its role in reactive oxygen species scavenging, redox homeostasis, and the glutathione-glutathione disulfide (GSH/GSSG) cycle. It is also studied as a cofactor for glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase enzymes, informing investigations into xenobiotic conjugation, detoxification pathways, and cellular oxidative-stress signalling mechanisms.
