Description: Melanotan I (afamelanotide) is a linear tridecapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) that acts as a potent, metabolically stabilised melanocortin receptor agonist, with pronounced activity at the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R). In research models, it is used to investigate melanocortin signaling, receptor binding and selectivity, and the regulation of melanogenesis and eumelanin synthesis. It is also studied as a tool compound for examining MC1R-mediated pathways relevant to pigmentation biology and cellular photoprotection.
