Description: Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) derived from the ACTH(4-10) fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone, stabilised against enzymatic degradation by a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension and lacking corticotropic hormonal activity. In neurological research models, it is investigated for its influence on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression, neuroprotective and neurorestorative signalling, and modulation of serotonergic and dopaminergic systems. It is further studied in laboratory contexts examining cognitive performance, stress resilience, and cerebral ischemia recovery mechanisms.
